Biography: EGBERT JONES was appointed to Fort St. George in the place of James Wendey. He arrived at the beginning of the year 1711 and died in November of the same year. He was the son of John Jones of Llanvehenan, Anglesea; he matriculated at Oriel College Oxford in 1704; and graduated B.A. in 1707. His remains were buried in the old cemetery north west of the Fort; but no memorial stone exists..
