Biography: EDWARD RICHARD OTTER was born in 1800, at Gloucester, being one of the sons of Major John Otter. He matriculated at Jesus College, Cambridge, in 1821; graduated B.A. as seven teenth Wrangler in 1826; and was elected a Fellow of his college in 1833. He took his part in the tuition work of the college till 1836, when he was appointed a Chaplain in the Company's service. On arrival at Madras he was posted to Bellary, and there he ministered till his death. He died unmarried at Bellary, in 1841.
