Biography: ROBERT CARVER was born in England in 1788. In the year 1815 he went to Ceylon in connection with the Wesleyan Missionary Society. He worked in the island till 1824; when, having lost his wife, he sought change of scene and went to Madras. He commenced work at St. Thome among all classes of residents, and his ministrations were highly valued during the sixteen years he was there. In the result he returned to St. Thome and worked under the S.P.G. from 1841 to 1845, having been ordained deacon and priest by Bishop Spencer in 1842. He died at St. Thome in 1845.
