Biography: JOHN CHARLES BARCLAY was born in England in 1801. He was in the Royal Navy till 1837, when he entered the C.M. College. Islington. He was ordained deacon by the Bishop of London in 1838, and went to Madras. In 1839 he was ordained priest by the Bishop of Madras. In 1840 he had some difficulty in believing the fundamental articles of the Christian faith and withdrew. He settled on the Nilgiris and died at Jackata (Wellington).
