Biography: STEPHEN HOBBS was born in England in 1815. He was at the C.M. College, Islington, 1835-37; was ordained deacon in 1838, and priest in 1839, by the Bishop of London. In 1839 he went to Tinnevelly and worked at various places in that District for 17 years. In 1856 he was transferred to Mauritius. He became Archdeacon of the Seychelles in 1871, and Archdeacon of Mauritius in 1873. He retired in 1877. after a missionary service of 38 years. He became afterwards Curate-in-charge of Warlingham in Surrey, and died at Winchester in 1893.
