Biography: GEORGE MATFHAN was a native of the Travancore State, a Malayalim by race and a Syrian Christian by religion. He was born 1818, educated at the Cottayam College, under the C.M.S. missionaries, and afterwards at the C.M. Institution at Madras. He was ordained deacon in 1844, and priest in 1847, by Bishop Spencer. He worked entirely in Travancore, and died in 1870.
