Biography: RICHARD RIDER he was entertained by the Court as Chaplain for Fort Marlborough (Bencoolen) on May 24, 1746, and produced the Bishop of London's license on the 6th June. On the 18th June he was ordered to be joint Chaplain with Francis Fordyce at Fort St. George. He arrived on the Coast at the end of the year; and finding Fort St. George in the hands of the French, he went with the Company's ship to Fort St. David. Here he remained nearly a year and then went to Bencoolen.
