Biography: JOHN THOMAS was not a member of any British or Irish University. He was ordained Deacon at Llandaff in 1750 and Priest in 1752; was appointed Chaplain by the Directors in January 1765; was approved by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and arrived at Fort St. George in November the same year. He remained in India twelve years and then returned to England. He was instituted to the Rectory of Donyat, co. Somerset, in 1782; and by dispensation was allowed to hold the Rectory of Buckland St. Mary with Donyat in 1784.
